Some of the trails we list are "Historic Trails" that are recognized by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). These are clearly marked as such for your benifit. The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail (AT) is 2160 miles long and runs from Mount Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia. The trail runs 146 miles through Vermont. The Vermont section of the AT starts at the Connecticut River and merges with "The Long Trail" at Sherburne Pass. The two trails run together for 95 miles through the Green Mountains to New Hampshire. There are several places that you can buy Appalachian Trail award patches for Scouts (see below).
The Long Trail
The Long Trail is 265 miles long and runs up the middle of Vermont along the main ridge of the Green Mountains. It starts at the border of Massachusetts and runs all the way to Canada. The Green Mountain Council, BSA, in Vermont sells Long Trail Award patches for Scouts (see below).
