This BSA Council Started in 1970.

They have two districts, Appalachian Trail District and Metacomet District.

Council Merger History

The Berkshire Council and the Hampshire-Franklin Council merged in 1968 to form the Great Trails Council.

This camp is over 60 years old and occupies 521 acres near "Scout Pond" (the pond is more than 10 acres). They offer swimming, canoes, sailboats, rowboats, tent camp sites, Adirondack (lean-to) shelters and winter cabins for overnight use and family camping, an activity field for athletics and camporess, rowboat and canoe rentals for overnight groups, a summer camp dining hall, patrol cooking for Boy Scouts, and extended Cub Scout camping. Their camp trading post is only open during the summer.

Campsites

The rates shown below are for a TWO NIGHT STAY (you pay the same for one night or two stay). For more than a two night stay, it cost an extra $25 per night (IN COUNCIL) and $35 per night (OUT OF COUNCIL COST). The lodges are heated by a wood stove and have bunk cots with matresses.

Directions to Camp

• From the West: Take Route 8 South to Hinsdale. Turn on Route 143 East. Drive approximately 20 miles and take a to Left onto Sugar Hill Road. The Camp Entrance will be 200 yards down on the right.

• From the East: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike I-90 to Interstate 91 North (Exit 4). Get off I-91 at Exit 19 in Northampton. Drive West on Route 9 towards Chesterfield and Williamsburg. After passing through Williamsburg, take a left on Route 143 West (there is a small BSA Camp sign). Stay on Route 143 for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Sugar Hill Road. The camp entrance approximately 200 yards down on the right.
